Fred Mouton, Die Burger’s beloved cartoonist for five decades, also ventured into the field of children’s art and gave shape to Bazoo, the friendly mountain tortoise. Mouton, with his distinctive drawing skills and dry sense of humor, creates a home for Bazoo and his story partners on the modest Fynbos neighborhood on Table Mountain. At the time of conception, Mouton readily agreed to be part of the Bazoo Project, which aims to tackle nascent literacy in a compassionate way.

Over a period of 10 years, he sends Bazoo and his friends on wonderful adventures and his illustrations captivate young and old. Mouton was able to visualize exactly what the text wanted to convey through his illustrations. Each illustration is further rounded off with a dash of humor, unique to him.
On your walk through the gallery, enjoy Fred’s well-known wit and exceptional ability to create art down to the finest detail.
