Pick up a brush and discover the fundamentals of painting in this relaxed, hands-on workshop designed especially for beginners and those with little or no painting experience. Guided by our wonderful assistants, Ron Sauerman and Anna van Pletsen, participants will work through a series of playful exercises exploring observation, colour, mark-making, brushwork, texture and composition. Learn how to simplify objects into shapes and colours, experiment with negative space, and explore how the feeling and texture of an object can be translated into paint.
The workshop will culminate in creating your own still life painting on canvas board, with individual guidance from Ron and Anna throughout the process. The emphasis is on experimentation, building confidence and enjoying the process rather than striving for perfection.
Materials supplied include:
- Paper for painting exercises
- Canvas board for your final painting
- Acrylic paints
- Brushes
- Mixing palettes and painting materials
- Still life objects
No previous painting experience is required. All you need to bring is your curiosity and a willingness to experiment!
