ACCORDION BOOKBINDING WORKSHOP WITH MASTER BOOK ARTIST, HELÉNE VAN ASWEGEN Saturday and Sunday the 25th and 26th May from 9:00 – 15:00

For this engaging two-day workshop, we’ll delve into the fascinating binding style known as accordion books (also known as leporello or concertina books). This unique process involves folding long strips of paper into a zigzag formation, which will then be encased into a hardcover structure with a straight back spine. When fully opened, all pages can be viewed at once, making it a beloved choice among artists seeking to showcase their work in galleries. Attendees will have the opportunity to personalize their books with basic line drawings, collage, or any other desired embellishments.

This weekend workshop is priced at R1000 and includes all necessary materials and refreshments for the day.

Looking ahead:

This workshop marks the beginning of an exciting trilogy, including accordion books, case binding, and finally, a solander box—a custom container structure designed to house handmade books. While attending all three workshops isn’t mandatory, participants may opt to do so to gain a comprehensive skill set in well-crafted book construction. For those attending all three workshops, the Solander workshop will be discounted by 40% (R600).
