Our Bookbinding Workshops with Heléne van Aswegen are back by popular demand! For this first weekend workshop, we will dive into the inner workings of proper book construction, focusing on case binding. Case binding is the most common hardcover technique, the one most people envision when they think of books, and requires minimal equipment. The process involves folding and sewing the paper together, adding endpapers at the beginning and end of the paper block, and finally encasing the block in a hardcover with a straight-back spine.

Participants will have the opportunity to customise their own papers using various mark-making and creative techniques, which will then be incorporated into the binding process. No prior knowledge or experience is needed to attend and enjoy this workshop.

Cost: R1000 for the whole weekend with materials and refreshments included

RSVP: We can accommodate up to 12 participants for this workshop, so the earlier you book, the better!

Date and Time: Saturday, 29 and Sunday 30 March from 9:00 to 15:00 each day in our gallery space.
