Movie Night: The Grand Budapest Hotel (Thursday 11 May 2023)
Oude Leeskamer invites you to our first movie night, on Thursday the 11th of May 2023 at 17h30 for 18h00 in our Leeskamer, where we will be showing Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). This is the first of a series of movies which aim to reflect, emphasize or be in conversation with our current exhibition’s theme. Our exhibition, Chromatic Horizons, is group exhibition showcasing the work of artists whose practice explores the intricacies and complexities of colour.

Wes Anderson’s masterful use of color in his film The Grand Budapest Hotel is a visual feast for the eyes. The film’s distinct color palette is a key element of its storytelling, with Anderson employing a meticulously crafted combination of bold and vibrant hues that evoke a sense of whimsy and nostalgia. The film’s predominant use of pastel pinks, rich purples, and vibrant yellows creates a visually stunning and surreal world that is both visually captivating and emotionally evocative. Anderson’s attention to detail in his color choices extends beyond just set design and costumes, but also to props, lighting, and even the characters’ expressions. This deliberate and meticulous use of color in The Grand Budapest Hotel adds a layer of visual storytelling, enhancing the film’s unique blend of comedy, drama, and adventure, and elevating it to a visually immersive cinematic experience.
