We invite you to an afternoon of poetry with award-winning poet, writer and translator Pieter Madibuseng Odendaal, celebrating two remarkable collections: Odendaal’s a corpse is also a garden and Peruvian poet Jorge Alejandro Ccoyllurpuma’s first English-language collection, The Sky Blue Sword of Your Body. Joined by Dr Annel Pieterse, the conversation will explore the intersections of poetry, translation and intercultural exchange across the Global South.

Together, these collections open a rich dialogue between the poetries of South Africa and Peru, exploring shared histories, decolonial futures, spirituality, love and our profound relationship with the natural world. Traversing two continents, the poems imagine new possibilities for solidarity and renewal in a world shaped by the Anthropocene, offering powerful meditations on belonging, memory and our shared humanity.
