Join us for our Writer’s Evening with Professor Louise Viljoen in conversation with one of the most loved and awarded Afrikaans novelists, Ingrid Winterbach.
Louise Viljoen talks to her about her career as a writer and artist, where it all began, who influenced her, and what she considers to be important highlights since her debut with Klaaglied vir Koos in 1984. Winterbach’s writing career, which spans almost four decades, is characterised not only by the scope and appreciation of her work, but also by the numerous awards it has received.
Joan Hambidge considers Winterbach one of the most important novelists in Afrikaans. She compares Winterbach’s handling of different styles, the change in key, the merging of the religious and the primordial in her 2021 novel, Voorouer. Pelgrim. Berg. to that of Frederico Fellini’s filmmaking.
